Nike: JUST BUY IT

Nike is a popular clothing and shoe manufacturer. You can ask almost anyone and they most likely have heard of or have owned something hat was made by Nike. As opposed to other clothing and shoe manufactors like Prada, designer clothing and shoes, or Dickies, a retailer whose goods are direceted towards work wear, Nike ads are oriented towards the sports enthusiasts. Like the ad above, many ads by Nike feature famous athletes in them are wearing Nike gear. The Nike ads also give consumers the idea that if they wear Nike gear they will excel in athletics. In America today, playing sports more popular and competetive than ever. Many kids these days, play sports year around, competing, and attending camps. With parents and media pushing these kids, the kids want to be the best they can be and will buy and do whatever they can to be better than the competition. Nike sees and understands this and takes advantage of this by directing there ads to this point of view. From this particular ad, what I read from it it that If I want to be an allstar basketball player, be famous, on TV and be rich doing it, then I need to buy and wear Nike.

  2. Interesting post! Nowadays, everyone knows Nike and immediately associates it with high class sports apparel. However, once upon a time it was not so. Nike has built up its fame through sponsoring many celebrities to promote their products, their catchy ads and well known slogan "just do it." I mean, why Nike? Why not Reebok, or new balance, or Skechers? It's not that there is something inherently better in Nike products but rather it seems that the brand has initated itself into the culture of our world,in a way that other brands have not had as much success. It made its mark in the sports industry and in the minds of, as you said, sports enthusiasts. We trust and believe the supremacy of Nike products due to the embedded societal perception, but looking at the raw material facts Reebok is no less as a producer of sports apparel. It's interesting to think that even if this were scientifically proven that Reebok shoes are no worse, or perhaps even better that Nike shoes, Nike sales would still soar in the consumer market.
