"I see you..."

A memorable scene that I remember from the movie Avatar is near the end. It is the scene where Neytiri gets to Jake in time after killing Colonel Quaritch and saves him after Quaritch reaches and breaches the avatar link unit containing Jake's human body and exposes him to Pandora's poisonous atmosphere. This scene is especially memorable because it is the first time that Neytiri sees Jake's human body. She finally sees Jake as he really is. She sees that he is a paraplegic. There is nothing to hide and they both see each other's true selves. Neytiri's body form is much larger than Jake's human body form. She appears at this moment to be his protector. Jake touches Neytiri's face and repeats the meaningful and memorable line, "I see you...". Neytiri grasps Jake's hand as well and responds with "I see you". They reaffirm their love. These two star-crossed lovers are reunited and see each other in their true form. They stare into one another's eye. One can tell that they are in love by the way that they look in each other's eyes. Neytiri is holding Jake's human hand with her blue-skinned hands...

Let us not forget that this is not the first time that they exchanged these words. The first time was after Jake returns to regain the Na'vi's trust with a Toruk, a powerful pterodactyl like predator that has been tamed only five times in Na'vi history. Neytiri and Jake both exchanged these words at that moment but Neytiri was the first to say "I see you." It seems as if at that moment, Neytiri was very moved by Jake's bravery and she finally believes that she really loves him. Whereas in the scene that I mentioned, Jake was the first to say "I see you." Jake was touched and moved by Neytiri's bravery and love for him because she risked her life to save him. From these two clips, these words can be seen as a confession of love. This scene made me feel so much joy for these two star-crossed lovers. I was touched by their love and Neytiri coming to rescue Jake gave off the expression of "we did it." I, as the viewer, really felt as if I belonged with the Na'Vi and it really was a tearful moment of joy. I felt as if I was on the Na'Vi's side and rooted for them during the whole battle. The scene tried to captivate my love for the two star crossed lovers. The scene also tried to have me sympathize with Neytiri and Jake and to witness their victory over their long hard battle to fight against others' attempt at stopping their love for one another. Everything, from the way that the two characters looked at each other, their words, the camera angles, and the music, worked to instill hope, sympathy and joy within the viewer. This scene argues that two people from different worlds and backgrounds can love each other and can overcome all difficulties that they encounter if they work together and believe in one another. We, as the viewer, are on the journey with Jake as he goes through all of the emotions and trials. We feel as if we are in the movie and it becomes our reality for that moment.
